BSU MEMBERSHIP

DEFINITION:

The membership of the University of Maryland Black Student Union consists of University of Maryland – College Park undergraduates. Any student may become a member

.
ENTITLEMENTS:

The following rights shall be granted to members of the University of Maryland Black Student Union:
• The right to run for any position on the Executive Board of the University of Maryland Black Student Union.
• The right to vote in elections.
• The right to give input and suggestions on all matters involving the Black Student Union
• The right to attend and pose questions at all General Body meetings.
• The right to apply for scholarships and awards if made available and distributed by the BSU and BSU sponsors.
• **NEW** The right to receive reduced admission rates (if available) for all public BSU events with the presentation of a membership card.
• **NEW** The right to receive BSU merchandise first, if made available, with the presentation of a membership card


NOTE: All BSU members are non-dues paying and are welcome and encouraged to participate fully and freely in all aspects of the BSU. Possession of a membership card provides members with an opportunity to get reduced admission rates to public BSU events. Membership cards will be readily available at all General Body Meetings and are free.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

We encourage all BSU members to:
• Understand and promote the mission of the Black Student Union.
• Articulate, with the assistance of the Black Student Union Executive Board, matters of policy and general purposes.
• Make an effort to actively participate in all Black Student Union endeavors.
• Network with other Black Student Union members.
• Network with Black Student Union alumni, when opportunities are made available.
• Take advantage of Black Student Union resources aimed at personal, social, cultural, academic, career, and community development.
• Foster a sense of community with other University of Maryland Student groups.
• Offer suggestions and ideas, about planning, logistics, marketing, promotion, and facilitation of Black Student Union events and program.


MEMBERSHIP CARDS:

To receive a BSU membership card, attend a BSU General Body Meeting, and exchange your contact information (Name, Phone Number, and Email Address), and join at least one committee. BSU membership cards, will not be made available by anyone other than an active Executive board member, and will not be available anywhere other than at General Body Meetings.


Membership Card Benefits:

• The right to receive reduced admission rates for all public BSU events with the presentation of a membership card. Reduced Admission may not be offered at every event, and may vary. Reduced Admission may only be applied to the member designated by the signature on the card.
• The right to receive BSU merchandise first, if made available, with the presentation of a membership card.
• NOTE: If available, reduced admission will be only offered if Membership Card is produced at the time of ticket purchase.
