FRESHMEN COUNCIL

The Black Student Union Freshmen Council is an elected committee of freshmen that is dedicated to cultivating a leadership experience for first year student at the University of Maryland College Park. This mission is achieved through a focus in four areas of development:

  1. Experiential Learning
  2. Leadership Development and Training
  3. Organizational/Administrative Networking
  4. Freshmen Advocacy

The basic structure of the program has two components.  In the fall a series of workshops, bi-weekly meetings, and activities are created in order to provide leadership training for the Freshmen Council.  The Completion of the fall component will consist of participation in a leadership conference.  In the spring the Freshman Council will program several programs. Upon completion, these freshmen students will have the skills, connections, and confidence to continue and further themselves as campus leaders.

The tentative date for Freshmen Council elections is September 29th. Any freshmen will be eligible to run for the following positions:

  • President
  • Executive Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Programming Coordinator of Community Affairs
  • Programming Coordinator of Academic Affairs
