Recently the BSU has established a number of annual Black History Month events including a series of cultural events each Monday of the month, Late Night Chill Out, and a social in the Stamp Student Union. If you have any question, or would like to join the Black History Month Committee, please contact us at UMDBSU@hotmail.com

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

The Black Student Union’s community service committee goal is to give interested students an opportunity to assist and plan various community-oriented projects. Through these projects, we hope to improve the lives of people in the community and prepare our constituents for responsible citizenship and community leadership. To accomplish this goal, the committee will strive to meet community needs identified by members, work collaboratively with campus and community-based organizations, and regularly evaluate our involvement in the community to document impact and improve efforts. Projects that we do as an organization may range from food-drives to scheduled tutoring sessions. If you would like to be involved in the community service committee, please contact us at UMDBSU@hotmail.com

HIP-HOP CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

The “Hip-Hop Conference” has become a tradition for the Black Student Union at the University of Maryland, College Park. The “Hip-Hop Conference” is a week-long celebration of hip-hop culture that includes a series of panel discussions, keynote speakers, demonstrations, competitions, community service projects, theatrical performances and a concert. It is through these components that the “Hip-Hop Conference” can serve the interests of a diverse student body who view and appreciate hip-hop culture in varying ways.

Past Hip-Hop Conferences have brought prominent names from the Hip-Hop Community including KRS1, Talib Kweli, Chuck D, Jessica Care Moore, Dead Prez, The Clipse, Ghostface Killah, Kevin Powell, Amiri Baraka, Jeff Johnson and Fred Hampton Jr. The Hip-Hop Conference Committee is in charge of programming and executing all aspects of the conference. If you are interested in joining this committee please email us at UMDBSU@hotmail.com

Black Terp Yearbook Committee

The Black Terp Yearbook was created to give members of the Black Student Union and other Black Organizations a keepsake of the year’s events. Committee members create a DVD yearbook with photos of BSU members as well as highlights of the year’s biggest events. Photographers, editors, and people with computer skills are needed. If you are interested in working on this year’s yearbook contact Kyla Pitts at laurenkylapitts@yahoo.com
