How Good Do YOU Want To Be? (How HARD are you willing to WORK at it?)
All of us are most comfortable with the familiar; the people, places, and processes that we know. For some, even the potential of change can cause anxiety and fear. But to truly grow as people, we must step out of our comfort zone and take on the unknown. Change can lead to better opportunities. Change is not always an easy thing to do, but it can open your eyes to opportunities. For some change comes easily, and they are ready to go beyond their comfort zone. For others, change is worse than suffering; they would rather be unhappy in their present state than take risk of change to find happiness. (Nothing in life will be given to you; you must work for everything you get.)
Invest in your time, don’t spend it. Investing your time is something much different. Investing time means spending it for a worthwhile purpose: to work toward something, to accomplish something that will help you achieve. You see the difference in the off-season or at practices. Some players- or teams- spend two hours in the afternoon doing drills, rehearsing plays, not showing up, and/or going through the motions of practice or workouts. But others invest their two hours by working hard, correcting mistakes, and improving on each day. The difference between spending time and investing time can impact results dramatically. (Playing time is earned not given to anyone.)
You don’t always get what you want, but you always get what you deserve. I will not reward you for something you haven’t earned. If you do put in the time to become better, do not expect to be place on the team you want, or the starting position you feel you deserve. DO NOT let someone take your spot. If you want a great jump shot work on it everyday, just do not think it will happen because your name is GREATNESS…..
When I talk about focus, I am not implying that you eliminate everything else in life. You can be successful at more than one thing in life-it’s called “seeing the big picture.” Balance is a crucial element in the art of maintaining focus. Take an inventory of yourself and look around. Are you focusing on the important stuff? Are you able to resist temptation and distraction? CHAMPIONS NEVER RELAX!!
10 Ways to be a Skyline Lady Hawk ON the Court
- Plays hard every down and because of effort, makes plays that are the difference between winning and losing.
- Team player. Would she be missed if she were gone? Is she a part of the system?
- Fundamentally sound. Fundamentals are the essence of victory. A direct sign of coaching and the young woman’s coach-ability.
- Can and does lift others to a higher level of play. A leader by example, deed and word.
- Well conditioned. Anything of greatness involves passion an only a passionate person loves the pain and strain of conditioning.
- Performs a skill well. Each position requires an established muscle memory activity. An athlete who practices well will show that skill.

- Clutch player. When it’s on the line, who steps up?
- Puts the team in a position to win. Enough said.
