Alpha
Nu Omega Fraternity and Sorority were first introduced to the
University of Maryland, College Park in the spring of 2000. Zealously,
Eagle Brothers Nnamdi Nwoke, Michael Bell, Chris Smith, Kmele
Foster and Keith Michel chartered the fraternity while Dove Sisters
Tracy Foster and Toneka Ross began the establishment of
the sorority. These 7 original charter members were inspired by
a strong desire to instigate change for Christ on the College
Park campus in a way that was powerful and effective.
The
following semester, in the fall of 2000, the fraternity proudly
introduced The Luverboy Line. Terrence Hines, Michael Kelsey,
Derrick Laboo, Kwaku Appiah, Paul Monterio, and Christian Videla
were instrumental in the development of the fraternity.
While
the fraternity had already attained National recognition, the
sorority needed to increase its membership by 3 in order to become
distinctly recognized by the National organization and to be recognized
by the campus as a sorority. In the fall of 2000, charter members
Naomi Johnson and Camille Smith of "The Never Ending Story"
were inducted. One year later, in the fall of 2001, the sorority
introduced its last charter members: "The Survivors."
The addition of Melanie Cathey, Jessica Moreland, Dilana Pickett,
Tiffany Edwards and Latoya Gayle allowed the sorority to gain
National organizational recognition and officially establish itself
on the campus.
Since
its first introduction to College Park, Kappa chapter has
prided itself in upholding a standard of excellence in all that
it does. Holding tight to the mission of Alpha Nu Omega, Inc.,
we devotedly stand on the belief that everything that we put our
hands to will prosper. Both the fraternity and sorority continue
to host dynamic, stimulating events that minister to the needs
of our campus.
